Memphis faces heat Monday. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Monday through 7 p.m. Tuesday, with afternoon heat indexes reaching as high as 109 degrees.
Heat Peaks Monday Afternoon
Monday’s forecast calls for near-record temperatures, while the heat index could feel closer to 109. East-northeast winds should stay light at around 5 mph, and rain chances rise to 20%.
The National Weather Service says hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, advising residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible, avoid prolonged sun exposure and check on relatives and neighbors.
Triple-Digit Heat Returns Tuesday
Tuesday looks even hotter, with a sunny high near 100 degrees and heat indexes up to 108. Overnight temperatures will offer limited relief, dipping only to around 77 degrees Monday night and 78 degrees Tuesday night.
There is a small chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm Monday afternoon across parts of the broader Mid-South, but Memphis is expected to remain mostly dry. Rain chances drop to near zero from Tuesday through the end of the workweek.
Near-100 Temperatures Hold Through Friday
The heat will linger after the advisory ends, with highs near 100 degrees possible in some areas and temperatures remaining high through the workweek. Saturday and Sunday highs in Memphis are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s, with weekend overnight lows not specified.
For anyone working or exercising outdoors, the safest window will be early in the day. Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, drink water before feeling thirsty and never leave children, older adults or pets in a parked vehicle.
