Metallica is bringing its massive M72 World Tour to Arrowhead Stadium on May 29, 2027. Limp Bizkit and Avatar will open the show as special guests, according to a Kansas City Chiefs announcement.
The Kansas City date is one of 12 stadium stops on Metallica's newly announced spring 2027 North American leg, as reported by FOX4KC. Since the M72 World Tour launched in April 2023 in support of the band's 2023 album 72 Seasons, Metallica has played 99 shows across 26 countries for nearly 5 million fans, according to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 2027 leg adds a dozen new stadium dates to that total.
A Different Format for the 2027 Run
Fans who caught Metallica on earlier legs of the tour may notice a change in Kansas City. Previous M72 stops featured two-night “No Repeat Weekends” with completely different 16-song setlists each night, but the spring 2027 North American leg will instead consist of single-night stadium concerts, per Revolver Magazine. The band's signature production remains intact, including a ring-shaped stage set up at midfield.
Before the stadium tour kicks off, Metallica has a lengthy Las Vegas commitment to fulfill. The band is set to complete a sold-out 24-show residency called “Life Burns Faster” at the Sphere, running from October 1, 2026, through March 13, 2027, according to Loudwire's report cited by Ultimate Classic Rock. That residency comes before the band heads back out to open-air stadiums.
Kansas City's Long History With Metallica
The Arrowhead date will add to Metallica's history in the Kansas City area, tracing back to the band's first local show on February 16, 1985, at the Uptown Theater in front of roughly 1,100 fans. A portion of proceeds from every ticket sold for the Arrowhead show will go to local nonprofit charities through Metallica's All Within My Hands foundation. Since 2017, the foundation has awarded more than $19 million in grants for workforce education, $8.8 million to fight food insecurity, and $6.2 million for disaster relief worldwide, with Metallica covering all administrative expenses so that every donated dollar reaches charitable partners.
The stadium itself has more than 73,000 seats, and it dropped its “GEHA Field” sponsor prefix in August 2026 to revert to simply Arrowhead Stadium, as Hoodline previously reported. Fan club presales begin September 21, 2026, at 10 a.m. local time, with additional presales for Citi cardmembers and Verizon Shine loyalty members running September 22 through 24. Local venue presales are also set for September 24, running from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time. General public tickets go on sale Friday, September 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. local time.
