Milpitas police are seeking help locating Lisa Ann Wayne, a 79-year-old San Jose woman who left Great Mall on foot without her family at about 2 p.m. Thursday. Wayne has dementia and medical conditions requiring medication, and police consider her at risk, according to the department’s bulletin and SFGATE.

Wayne is 5 feet tall and weighs about 140 pounds. She has gray hair and black eyes and was wearing a brown hat, a dark brown cheetah-print shirt and beige pants. Police said she does not have a cellphone, does not use public transportation and has not returned home. The details were posted by the Milpitas Police Department.

Anyone who sees Wayne should call 911 immediately. Because she may need medication and could be unable to safely navigate on her own, even information about a possible sighting may assist the search.
California Penal Code Section 14215 includes people who are cognitively impaired or in need of medical attention among the circumstances that can make a missing person “at risk,” along with other conditions such as suspected foul play or having no established pattern of disappearing, according to the state statute. Police agencies also must take missing-person reports without imposing a minimum waiting period, according to a San Diego Police Department procedure.
Police have not said whether they requested a California Silver Alert in Wayne’s case. The California Highway Patrol says such alerts require law enforcement to determine that the person is at risk and in danger, use available local resources and have information that could help the public locate the person.
