Modesto families have a free reason to head to Modesto Junior College this Saturday: the fourth annual Touch-A-Truck event returns to the West Campus Ag Pavilion from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., inviting kids to climb into fire trucks, tractors and other heavy equipment they'd normally only see from a distance.
The event is organized by Modesto Chamber of Commerce, which describes it as a free, family-friendly community event featuring big trucks, emergency vehicles and service vehicles. As reported by CBS News, this year's gathering marks the fourth time the event has taken place, offering families an interactive day built around hands-on access to more than 55 large and specialized vehicles.
According to an event listing on allevents.in, the gathering is organized by Touch-A-Truck Modesto, with the group saying it is proud to partner with the Modesto Chamber of Commerce and Reed Family Companies to put the day together. The listing confirms the free admission and the chance for attendees to touch, climb on and explore the trucks, tractors and equipment on display.
A Quieter Start for Sensory-Sensitive Families
Not every family wants to jump straight into the noise of horns and engines. Per the Chamber's LinkedIn account, the first hour of the event will be a quieter experience, giving kids and parents who prefer a calmer atmosphere a chance to explore before things pick up.
Once the vehicles are open for business, the Chamber notes that kids will have the opportunity to get up close, explore, and learn more about the vehicles — a hands-on look at machinery that usually stays roped off or parked behind a fence.
Food Trucks and Community Booths Round Out the Day
Hungry attendees won't have to go far. The Chamber's listing names several food vendors set to be on hand, including Vic's Churros, Dale's Kettle Korn & Agua Frescas, MacBox Food Truck, El Maguey Taco Truck and Volente Coffee Roasters.
Beyond the trucks and snacks, organizers are also encouraging visitors to check out community resource information booths set up around the pavilion, giving families another reason to linger after the last tractor has been explored.
