New Orleans founders will meet potential backers today as StartupNOLA and Startup Noir NOLA host Access to Capital: Meet the VCs at NOLA Brewing. The 4-to-6 p.m. event is designed to give entrepreneurs a direct introduction to 15 Louisiana venture capital firms and angel investor groups, according to Biz New Orleans.
The gathering arrives during a cautious period for the state's startup market. Louisiana startups completed 13 venture deals in the first quarter of 2026, including seven in New Orleans, while total startup funding fell to $15.7 million from $41.7 million in the previous quarter, a 62% decline, Technical.ly reported. Those figures describe the broader market, not the likely outcome of today's event.
A meeting point in a fragmented capital market
The participating organizations represent different routes to early capital rather than one uniform funding pool. The Louisiana Growth Fund, administered through Louisiana Innovation, provides equity investments of $250,000 to $1 million and can match private capital up to $1 million per deal, according to Louisiana Innovation. Tulane Ventures, meanwhile, is a $10 million seed fund focused on pre-seed and seed companies in areas including health, climate and technology; its checks range from $25,000 to $250,000, according to the Tulane Innovation Institute.
Other local channels include the New Orleans Startup Fund, an evergreen nonprofit seed fund serving early-stage companies in the 10-parish Greater New Orleans region. Greater New Orleans, Inc. says the fund has invested more than $2 million in over 40 companies, while the fund's 2023 annual report says its portfolio companies had raised more than $245 million in venture capital. Those follow-on figures indicate the potential scale of later fundraising, but they do not show that attendance at today's mixer produces an investment.
Networking is not the same as a completed deal
New Orleans has held other events that bring founders and investors together. The Idea Village said founders, investors and community members gathered at the House of Blues on June 18, 2026, for a Pitch Night featuring company pitches, an alumni showcase and networking, according to its event recap. The recap does not document completed investments, making it a useful comparison for the format but not evidence that today's participants will secure funding.
The event also fits into a longer-running effort to measure and expand the region's entrepreneurial infrastructure. Tulane's Albert Lepage Center launched its Greater New Orleans Startup Report in 2019 and says it will expand the project in 2026 into a Louisiana Startup Report with Louisiana Innovation, according to the center's report page. For founders attending today, the immediate value is access: introductions to investors, clearer information about eligibility and stage, and a chance to begin relationships in a market where capital remains available but more selective.
