A New Orleans fundraiser on Saturday will direct proceeds to four local animal rescue groups. Called Dog Run Cat Walk, the event pairs a group ride with a fashion show featuring adoptable pets, according to WDSU.
Four Rescues Share in the Fundraiser
The schedule calls for a 6 p.m. ride through the French Quarter, followed by a 7:30 p.m. fashion show at Moto Julia, 901 Julia Street, according to WDSU. Adoptable pets are set to appear in the show.
Proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Louisiana, Big Easy Rescue, Take Paws Rescue and Trampled Rose Rescue, according to WDSU. The station also reported that a local business and nonprofits are partnering on the effort.
Inflation and Abandonment Squeeze Local Shelters
According to WDSU, Jeff Dorson, who is affiliated with the Humane Society of Louisiana, said rising costs for pet food and veterinary care are putting pressure on pet owners. He said animal dumping is increasing locally and that abandonment is occurring across Louisiana.
Pet-Care Help and Shelter Trends
For residents seeking help with pet-care costs, the Louisiana SPCA says its pet food pantry provides food, litter and other necessities, including leashes and collars. Its Community Clinic offers low-cost services such as spay/neuter procedures, wellness visits and vaccines, according to the Louisiana SPCA. Nationally, dog and cat community intakes were 2.1% lower in 2025 than in 2024, while owner relinquishments or surrenders made up 30% of intakes, up from 29%, according to Shelter Animals Count. These national figures do not measure Louisiana, New Orleans or the four organizations benefiting from the fundraiser.
A Separate Local Intake Snapshot
Animal Rescue New Orleans reported a total intake of 591 animals in 2021, a separate local sheltering figure that does not describe the four groups benefiting from this event. Its 2021 outcome figures included adoptions, returns to owners, transfers, deaths in care and euthanasia, according to Animal Rescue New Orleans.
The ride and fashion show make up the event’s fundraising program for the four named rescue groups.
