A home under construction in New Smyrna Beach's Venetian Bay area collapsed Thursday afternoon, trapping at least one person beneath fallen roof trusses.
The collapse was reported at 3:18 p.m. Thursday, FOX 35 Orlando reported, citing the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department. The department said trusses fell into the home's interior during construction and at least one person was injured.
People Nearby Helped Free the Trapped Person
According to the station's report, people at the scene began removing wooden beams before firefighters arrived. Fire crews helped free the person, who was taken to a hospital for trauma-alert treatment.
At the time of the report, authorities had not disclosed the person's age or connection to the construction project. The cause of the collapse was not immediately known.
