Construction is underway on a three-story, 180-bed skilled nursing home at the former Western Union headquarters in Montvale, with groundbreaking held at 100 Summit Avenue on July 13. The Montvale Post Acute and Healthcare Center will rise on the 15-acre campus at 100 Summit Avenue in Bergen County, on the site of the former Western Union office complex.
The project, reported by Jersey Digs, will span 185,878 square feet and operate independently once complete, offering short-term rehabilitation, long-term residential care, and memory care. Marquis Health Consulting Services, based in Brick, will provide administrative and clinical support to the center. Groundbreaking participants included Marquis Division President Michael Smith.
A Corporate Campus Reimagined
The project sits on land Western Union owned and occupied for nearly 15 years before selling the 100 Summit Avenue complex to private equity investment firm Tryko Partners for $5.5 million, according to commercial real estate broker Savills. The redevelopment will add a new structure to the campus, and the site is now being developed for the facility.
Montvale's redevelopment of the vacant campus reflects a new use for the former corporate site. The nursing home project will bring medical and senior care to the property.
Private Rooms and a Main Street Layout
The facility is planned as a center for rehabilitation and residential care. Michael Smith, Marquis division president, said the center is poised to become a premier rehabilitation destination in a region where private rooms are scarce and specialized clinical care is in high demand. The center's planned opening remains unspecified.
Andy Aronson, president and CEO of the Health Care Association of New Jersey, said campuses like Montvale and other high-quality providers will be essential to meeting the growing need for care for older New Jerseyans. The New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development projects steady growth in the state's population aged 65 and older, which made up 13 percent of residents in 2010 and is projected to reach 20 percent by 2034. State projections also indicate residents 65 and older will begin outnumbering children under 15 sometime between 2029 and 2034.
Bergen County's Track Record on Care Quality
The new center will enter Bergen County's senior-care market. Marquis Health Consulting Services will provide administrative and clinical support to the center.
