The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is handling the active investigation into Richard Keith Harris, who was last seen in Verden, Oklahoma, on June 4, 2014. An OSBI spokesperson told KFOR that the agency becomes involved in a missing-person or cold case after receiving a formal request: KFOR.
Information in the missing-person records
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System lists Harris as case MP50282, according to Oklahoma Cold Cases. The listing describes him as a 5-foot-10-inch, 220-pound white man with brown hair and brown eyes. It says he was last known to be wearing a light gray T-shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. Harris was 56 when he disappeared and would now be 69.
The case listing says Harris returned to his home, spoke with people there and was not seen afterward. It also says his vehicle was found about one mile from the residence, in working order and with a full tank of gas. KFOR, citing Harris's son, Dakota Harris, reported that three people were inside the home and that Richard had been seen loading items into his car before the vehicle was found: KFOR.
Family and investigative status
Dakota Harris has continued seeking information about his father. KFOR reported that he believes the OSBI review could identify clues that were missed during the earlier investigation. The Caddo County Sheriff's Office had not responded to KFOR's question about why OSBI became involved when the report was published: KFOR.
Oklahoma resources for long-term missing-person cases
According to the Oklahoma Missing Persons Clearinghouse, people reporting a missing person should contact local law enforcement to file an official report and have a missing-person entry made in the National Crimes Information Center database. The Clearinghouse also says Francine's Law, passed in November 2019, requires missing-person cases to be entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System within 30 days.
A separate federal docket shows that Harris v. Caddo County Sheriff's Department, case 5:25-cv-01541, was dismissed without prejudice on May 20, 2026, after Judge Patrick R. Wyrick adopted a report and recommendation, according to court records. The docket entry does not, by itself, explain Harris's disappearance. Anyone with information about Richard Keith Harris is asked to contact OSBI.
