A University of Oklahoma student told KFOR she woke around 4 a.m. this past Monday to find an unknown man inside her off-campus Norman apartment, searching her belongings. She screamed, and he fled, the student said. No injuries were reported, and she said nothing was taken.
The apartment is at Callaway House Apartments, a complex near the University of Oklahoma campus that is popular with students, according to KFOR. The student told the outlet the man had gone through her underwear drawer. There was no sign of forced entry, and residents must scan to enter the building, elevators and stairways.
Police Search the Area but Come Up Empty
Norman police searched the surrounding area after receiving the report but did not locate the man, KFOR reported. He was described as a white male with brown hair. At the time of the report, police had not identified him or made any arrests in the case.
Police urged residents to secure doors and windows, especially overnight. Anyone with information can call the crime tip line at 405-307-7167; suspicious activity can be reported at 405-321-1444, KFOR reported.
What Norman's burglary data shows
Norman Police Department data lists 322 reported burglaries citywide in 2025, down from 448 in 2024. The annual figures do not specify how many were residential burglaries, so they cannot answer how many residential burglaries were reported in the most recent year covered, according to the department's annual report.
Complex Says It's Cooperating With Investigators
A Callaway House spokesperson told KFOR that residents’ safety and security is the complex’s top priority and that it is cooperating with police. The spokesperson declined to provide more details while the investigation remains open. The student said she does not plan to let the incident take over her life.
