A downtown Overland Park storefront is letting customers build their own lipstick and lip gloss from scratch, choosing from 30 shades, several finishes and scents like chai tea and pink champagne before watching it get mixed and packaged right in front of them. Bespoke Beaute Lab opened its first permanent shop at 7224 W. 79th St., turning what began as a bachelorette-party side hustle into a full-blown retail concept.
Owner Viktoria Volosin launched the business with her husband, Jason Gullick, according to the Johnson County Post. Volosin got the idea for the concept after visiting a bar-style lip lab during a trip to Texas, the outlet reports, and she has said the storefront's location suits her because it is close to downtown Overland Park and she loves the community there. The business is 40 years old, per the Kansas City Star — wait, that number actually belongs to Volosin herself, who is 40.
From Bachelorette Parties to a Storefront Counter
Bespoke Beaute Lab began as a private-event concept booked for things like bachelorette parties and birthdays before it expanded into pop-ups and, eventually, the storefront, the Johnson County Post reported in an earlier story. Even with the new shop open, the business will keep popping up across the Kansas City metro area, and larger groups can still book Bespoke Beaute Lab for homes, hotels and Airbnbs, according to Startland News.
The storefront itself is a tight fit by design: roughly 795 square feet, with the bar planned to seat about 10 people and a small back room set aside for private gatherings, Startland News reports. Up to 10 customers can be accommodated at a time to create a lip product of their choice, the Johnson County Post notes, and the Kansas City Star reports that Volosin got the keys to the space in April 2026 ahead of a soft opening on September 18.
Thirty Shades, Custom Scents and a Menu of Add-Ins
Once seated, customers choose from 30 different shades and pick a finish — frost, shimmer, glitter, satin or matte — along with a signature scent such as vanilla, pink champagne, chai tea or caramel, per the Kansas City Star and the Johnson County Post's reporting. Add-ins include extra sunscreen, lip plumping, anti-aging and extra-moisture additives, with a plumper costing an added $3, the Star reports. Customers receive a menu and can choose bundle or à la carte lip products, with bundle options starting at $74; custom lip gloss runs $38, liquid lipstick $42 and lipstick $45, all according to the Star's reporting, and those prices include the scents and finishes selected.
Volosin starts each customization by prepping customers' lips with a lip scrub and balm before the mixing begins, the Star reports. The full experience usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour. Customers can use their gloss immediately after it is made, but the Star notes they should wait a few hours before using their lipstick so it can properly set in its mold.
Vegan Gloss, Lanolin Bases and Repeat Orders
The shop's gloss is vegan, and its lip products are described as gluten-free and made with natural ingredients including jojoba and avocado oil, while the lipstick bases contain lanolin, according to the Star's reporting. Volosin has said the custom makeup bar lets customers experiment with colors and find products that make them feel confident. Every order's gloss and lipstick information stays on file, the Johnson County Post reports, so customers can walk back in and recreate a favorite shade without starting from scratch — and gloss, Volosin told the outlet, is definitely the most popular pick.
Bespoke Beaute Lab is open for appointments from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, with bookings preferred online in advance — a detail also confirmed by Visit Overland Park, which notes in-store bookings are now live. The shop still offers private parties and private events for those who want the bar-style experience away from the storefront.
What Growth Could Look Like
Volosin has said she hopes to eventually expand Bespoke Beaute Lab into more Kansas City or Midwestern locations and add products such as custom blushes, according to the Johnson County Post's earlier coverage. Startland News reports she has also floated the possibility of multi-use sticks and additional Midwest markets such as Denver and Omaha, though none of that is confirmed or scheduled. For now, the business expects the same pattern it saw before opening a storefront: busier stretches around holidays followed by slower periods the rest of the year, Volosin told Startland News.
