Pacific BeachFest returns to the Pacific Beach boardwalk on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, running from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with live music, a fish taco contest, a beach volleyball tournament and local shopping spread along the sand. The free festival marks its 25th year, drawing thousands of residents and visitors to a stretch of coastline that transforms into a full day of contests, stages and kid-friendly chaos.
The event stretches along the boardwalk from Felspar Street to Grand Avenue, according to Times of San Diego. Sunny Lee, executive director of Discover Pacific Beach, told the outlet that Pacific BeachFest is more than a festival — she said it is a celebration of the community, culture and beach that define the neighborhood. Streets west of Mission Boulevard will be closed for the day, and organizers are encouraging guests to use alternative transportation, with several paid parking lots available nearby along with extra bike parking, rideshare drop-off and scooter parking set up at Thomas Avenue.
Fish Tacos, Volleyball and Three Stages of Music
The festival's signature event, the 16th Annual Pacific BeachFest Best of the Beach Fish Taco Contest, runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with five restaurants providing samples for attendees to judge, per pacificbeachfest.org. Tickets cost $20 for five tacos and go on sale the day of the event at the food court, the site notes. Last year's contest was won by Duck Dive, according to the Times of San Diego report — a title the restaurant will be looking to defend this time around.
Beach volleyball also makes its return for a fifth straight year, with a co-ed tournament through Volo open to all skill levels. The tournament, per the same account, offers fun challenges, prizes for winning teams and awards for best costumes, with registration available through Volo's website. Music fills three separate stages throughout the day: the Main Stage on Hornblend features DJ Betty Bangs, Paging the 90s, Rock of Ages, Fishing for Chips and The Sleepwalkers, while the Grand Avenue Stage brings DJ Tony A, DJ Betty Bangs, DJ Brian Rose and a performer still to be determined.
Community Stage Spotlights Local Talent
The Community Stage leans into hometown talent, featuring Nancy & Nico, Tap Fever Studios, Crown Point Jr. Music Academy, Old School Skaters and the PBMS Concert, Orchestra & Jazz Band, alongside The Hazards, MBHS Preservationists & Mambo Orchestra, Thriller San Diego and Shoreline Blues. For families, Kids Action Alley offers beachside rides, free games and activities, with the YMCA supplying a climbing wall this year, per the festival's activities page.
Shoppers can browse more than 60 arts and crafts displays as part of the local shopping lineup, with the PB Merchant Sidewalk Sale set up along Garnet Avenue and on the boardwalk between Felspar and Garnet. Pacific BeachFest has historically drawn up to 50,000 visitors annually, according to sandiego.org, making it one of the neighborhood's biggest annual draws.
Races Kick Off the Weekend
The festival weekend opens with a full slate of races. The Pacific Beach 5K sends off an early wave at 7:30 a.m. Saturday followed by the main wave at 9 a.m., with the Pacific Beach Kids 1K following at 10:15 a.m. The 5K course is half sand and half boardwalk, with the start and finish on the sand, according to sandiegorunningco.com. The Pacific Beach Half Marathon follows the next morning, Sunday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 a.m.
Getting to the boardwalk without a car is straightforward: San Diego MTS riders can reach the festival via Routes 8, 27 or 30, according to sdmts.com.
