A grassroots tribute born out of grief in Norwood has quietly gone global. Painted rocks bearing the name of Ally Hill, the 27-year-old Skyline Chili server and mother of two who was fatally stabbed while working her shift in June, have turned up everywhere from Niagara Falls to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and one recently made its way across the Atlantic to Spain.
The project, known as Ally's Rocks, works like this: someone finds a painted rock, checks the information written on it, snaps a photo, and then carries it somewhere new before leaving it for the next person to discover, according to WKRC. Rocks tied to the tribute have already surfaced across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, as well as at Niagara Falls in New York and along the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California, the station reports. A family from Spain reportedly picked one up and brought it home, extending the tribute's reach overseas.
A Tribute Meant to Help People Grieve and Smile
The station's report notes the tribute is designed to help people grieve while still finding a reason to smile, a small comfort threaded through an otherwise painful year for Hill's family and coworkers. An online group dedicated to tracking the rocks has grown to more than 300 members, per the same account.
WKRC reports that Kayla Elliott and her sister Angela started the project shortly after Hill's death. Kayla Elliott told the station that Hill cannot be replaced, and that her impact has stretched well beyond Cincinnati to reach strangers who never knew her. Separately, the report also quotes Angela Elliott saying Hill continues to impact people even after her death.
Remembering a Mother of Two From Norwood
Hill, described in coverage as a local mother, was killed after being stabbed while working her shift at the Norwood Skyline Chili in June 2026. Her obituary, published by Paul R. Young Funeral Home, states that Alyssa Nicole Hill, 27, passed away on June 2, 2026, in Norwood, Ohio. Oxygen has reported that Hill, known as Ally, was attacked during her shift at the restaurant.
In the months since, the community has rallied around Hill's two children. Skyline Chili raised more than $150,000 for a fund benefiting the kids, according to WLWT. The chain and Coca-Cola each pledged $25,000 to that fund, per a separate report from local12.com, and WLWT reported that Hill's family set up a GoFundMe campaign for the children. Flowers, notes and other memorial items have continued to accumulate outside the Norwood restaurant, according to WCPO.
Ex-Boyfriend Faces Aggravated Murder Charges
Rick Wright, identified as Hill's ex-boyfriend, is accused of killing her and faces charges that include aggravated murder. WCPO reports that Wright, 37, pleaded not guilty after a grand jury indicted him on two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault and one count of aggravated murder. He was scheduled to appear back in court on Wednesday, according to WKRC's reporting, though the outcome of that hearing had not been reported.
The rock tribute is far from the first of its kind. A similar painted-rock initiative was launched by two children in memory of their late father, sending stones around the world, as reported by the BBC. For Hill's loved ones, the rocks now traveling from Northern Kentucky to Spain serve as small, mobile reminders that a life lost in a Norwood restaurant is still being carried, quite literally, around the world.
