Partners Coffee is closing the doors of its original Williamsburg flagship at 125 North 6th Street for good, with final service set for Sunday, September 27. The cafe and roastery has anchored that stretch of North 6th Street for nearly 15 years, and its exit marks the end of an era for one of Brooklyn's earliest specialty coffee outposts.
In an Instagram announcement reported by Greenpointers, Partners Coffee confirmed that its lease at the address is expiring and that financial pressures combined with a changing neighborhood made holding onto the original space impossible. The Brooklyn-headquartered, independently owned company describes its origin story simply: two friends who wanted to create a place to celebrate coffee, according to the same report.
The Williamsburg location didn't start life under the Partners Coffee name. It opened in 2012 as Toby's Estate Coffee Roasters, a licensed outpost of the Australian coffee brand, before co-founders Amber Jacobsen and Adam Boyd rebranded the company to Partners Coffee in April 2019, according to Daily Coffee News. The rebrand was meant to emphasize local Brooklyn ownership rather than an imported coffee identity, the outlet reported.
A Neighborhood Institution Beyond the Counter
The North 6th Street space became more than a coffee shop over the years. It hosted hands-on classes covering espresso preparation and extraction, per NYC Tourism.
The building itself carries its own local history. In the 1980s it was home to Belinda's Lounge, a detail captured in a photograph by local photographer Anders Goldfarb that Partners Coffee says inspired the cafe's interior design, including gold-leaf entryways and murals connecting the space to Williamsburg's artistic past, per the company's own account.
North Brooklyn's Coffee Pioneers Face a Changing Market
Williamsburg's coffee scene included specialty coffee roasters and cafes, with brands testing third-wave coffee concepts throughout North Brooklyn. That legacy scene now contends with commercial pressures in the neighborhood.

Three Cafes Remain, Including a New Heritage Spot
Partners Coffee isn't leaving Williamsburg altogether. In February, the company opened a new 50-seat cafe called Bedford at 145 Bedford Avenue near North 9th Street, just blocks from the closing flagship, according to the Specialty Food Association. The Bedford location was designed as a heritage space centered on coffee education and slower-paced hospitality, the trade group reported.
Once the North 6th Street flagship serves its last cup, Partners Coffee will operate three retail cafes across New York City: the Bedford Avenue location in Williamsburg, 44 Charles Street in the West Village, and 26-25 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, per the same Specialty Food Association report. The company has also had a location at 6 1/2 Avenue Market.
During the 2019 rebrand, Partners Coffee changed its name, according to Daily Coffee News.
For now, the closure of the North 6th Street flagship reads less like a retreat and more like a changing of address forced by the economics of North Brooklyn real estate — the same pressures that have reshaped commercial blocks throughout Williamsburg since the neighborhood's coffee boom began well over a decade ago.
