The riverfront property that once housed Bar K's Oklahoma City dog bar is getting a new tenant. New owners have filed plans to renovate and expand the site along the Oklahoma River under the banner Paws and Pints, a dog-centered bar and daycare concept that currently operates a single location in Des Moines, Iowa.
Bar K abruptly shut its doors in July 2025, closing all three of its locations in Oklahoma City, Kansas City, and St. Louis, and citing severe economic pressures including rising inflation, high labor costs, and reduced consumer spending, according to KSDK. The Oklahoma City location had opened in February 2023 at 901 SE 5th St, marking the first commercial private development in the Boathouse District, according to 405 Magazine. Its closure came after less than three years in business along the river.
Bar K's collapse didn't stop at shuttered doors. As KOCO anchor Abigail Ogle reported, the company gave no notice and issued no refunds to members before closing. That left annual members holding paid memberships ranging from $250 to $500, and many turned to their credit card companies to file charge disputes, per the same KSDK report. Bar K later filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection on August 4, 2025, listing total liabilities estimated between $1 million and $10 million, according to Hoodline's earlier coverage of the fallout.
What Paws and Pints Plans to Build
Plans for the Oklahoma City site include dog daycare and grooming, according to KOCO. The project is still in the early stages of planning, and no construction timeline or opening date has been released, KOCO reports. The existing facility had featured upcycled shipping container architecture under Bar K's original design.
Paws and Pints was founded by Kyle and Megan Casey, who opened their original 7.2-acre flagship canine retreat and bar in Des Moines in August 2022, according to Little Village. That Des Moines facility spans a 33,000-square-foot multi-use building alongside nearly 25,000 square feet of synthetic turf play areas and a 3.5-acre natural grass park, complete with a full-service bar and restaurant, according to the Iowa Food and Family Project. The Oklahoma City version, per KOCO, is expected to include doggy daycare, grooming services, outdoor play areas, a bar, and trivia nights for humans, with memberships available on a daily or monthly basis.

Whether Paws and Pints will offer any incentives to former Bar K members who lost membership money has not been addressed in the filings reported so far, and neither the construction timeline nor an opening date has been made public.
