A Peruvian pop-up is taking a step toward a permanent home. Pacha Mama's is putting down roots.
According to WhatNow New Orleans, Pacha Mama's is a traditional Peruvian pop-up putting down roots. In a video posted on the restaurant's Facebook page, the business says its family has taken a big step and asks what it is bringing to Magazine Street.
From Pop-Up to Permanent Kitchen
Pacha Mama's is a traditional Peruvian pop-up preparing to put down roots on Magazine Street.
The full menu at the new location will lean on pollo a la brasa, alongside lomo saltado and anticuchos beef skewers. Together, those dishes offer a comfort-focused menu rather than one built around plating flourish.
Magazine Street Changes
Magazine Street has also seen changes this year: Hoodline has reported that Gris-Gris is closing its doors.
Pacha Mama's isn't the only pop-up in town making that leap this year. Hoodline reported in February that Fico Cucina found a permanent home in Uptown after building its own following through temporary bar and brewery takeovers. Fico Cucina's move is another example of a pop-up finding a permanent home.
Peruvian Dining in New Orleans
Pacha Mama's arrival adds to New Orleans' Peruvian dining scene. Social Peruvian Restaurant is at 5015 Magazine Street. Omar Lugo is a founder of Social, and Adolfo Gosálvez served as Executive Chef at Misión Ceviche.
A 2018 Hoodline article listed Tito's Ceviche & Pisco at 5015 Magazine Street.
A 2018 Hoodline roundup of Peruvian restaurants in New Orleans included Cuzco Peruvian Cuisine on Freret Street and Piscobar inside the downtown Catahoula Hotel, as Hoodline noted.
