Friday Brings Heat With A Small Storm Chance
Friday afternoon, temperatures should peak near 101 degrees, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 5 p.m. South-southeast winds of 5 to 10 mph are expected to turn west later, with occasional gusts reaching the upper teens, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain should be hit-or-miss in Phoenix, and any shower may be brief. The better chance for wetting rain remains around foothills and higher terrain northeast and east of the metro, while the lower desert could simply get clouds, wind and a few rumbles. No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for the forecast area.
Saturday Is The Coolest Day Of The Stretch
Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 100 and little chance of rain. Overnight lows remain around 82, so the Valley will not get much of a reset after dark. The latest outlook trims a degree or two from the holiday-weekend highs in Hoodline's earlier forecast and puts the weekend's better rain chances west of Phoenix.
Labor Day Weekend Keeps The Oven On
Sunday climbs to 102 degrees, with west-southwest gusts as high as 20 mph. Labor Day will be sunny and around 103, followed by a low near 85 Monday night. Tuesday is forecast to reach 105, making it the hottest day in the current outlook.
Storm Chances Improve Midweek
Some relief may finally arrive in the form of storm chances, not cooler air, by Wednesday and Thursday. The forecast calls for a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening, followed by another 30% chance Thursday. Any Phoenix rainfall is expected to be light, but storms could still bring sudden wind, lightning and slick roads.
Plan Outdoor Time Early
For Friday and the holiday weekend, outdoor workouts, yardwork and errands will be more manageable in the morning or after sunset. Bring water for people and pets, take breaks in air conditioning or shade, and keep an eye on changing storm conditions as the week progresses.
