Rain is expected across the Portland metro area Thursday evening or night and into Friday. System totals should exceed a quarter inch, with a 45–85% chance of exceeding three-quarters of an inch and higher probabilities in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
This is a more consequential update than the earlier outlook, which had mainly flagged Thursday as the start of a wetter pattern. The incoming system is now expected to bring widespread rain, stronger winds and a small chance of thunderstorms to the region.
Friday Brings Wind, Showers And A Storm Chance
Friday will be cooler. Inland wind gusts are most likely to reach 20 to 30 mph, while heavier showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible later in the day.
The storm threat is limited, but stronger showers could produce sudden, erratic wind gusts. Drivers should also be ready for wet roads and reduced visibility during periods of rain.
Dry Weekend Offers A Quick Reset
The forecast dries out quickly Friday night. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be dry, with highs in the mid-60s.
