Rebecca Yarros is starting her book tour at home. The Colorado Springs author of the blockbuster “Fourth Wing” series will kick off a four-city tour with a live event at the Buell Theatre in Denver on September 28, and every audience member will walk away with a signed hardcover copy of her new novella collection, “Threshing Day.”
Tickets go on sale September 8 at 10 a.m. through AXS.com, according to 9News. The Denver stop is being hosted by Tattered Cover, the local bookseller that has become something of a go-to home base for Yarros events in Colorado since its 2024 rescue from bankruptcy. The evening will include a live Q&A alongside the book giveaway, and the tour will continue to New York City on October 1, Los Angeles on October 3, and Seattle on October 4.
The Buell Theatre, part of the Denver Performing Arts Complex, seats 2,839 people and is one of the highest-grossing theaters of its size in the country, according to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. That kind of capacity underscores just how large Yarros' following has become in her home state, where the Colorado Avalanche previously fielded over 30,000 ticket requests for roughly 2,500 “Fourth Wing Night” packages, a demand that led the team to schedule an “Iron Flame Night” for October, as Hoodline previously reported.
A Companion Volume, Not Book Four
“Threshing Day” is not the long-awaited fourth novel in the Empyrean series but a 176-page hardcover collection of 13 short stories featuring characters and their dragons from the world of Basgiath, according to 9News. Yarros said the collection offers fans “a trip back to Basgiath” while she continues writing the fourth full-length book, and she described it as containing “thirteen threshing stories about favorite characters and their dragons,” per the outlet's reporting. One of those stories, focused on the character Xaden, will be posted separately on Yarros' website rather than printed in the book, 9News reports.
The deluxe first edition includes 16 original full-color illustrations by artist Joe Requeza and retails for $24.99, according to Barnes & Noble. The book officially releases September 29, the day after the Denver event, with an official release time of 10 a.m., per 9News. Yarros told the outlet that tour dates are limited this fall because her schedule is packed with releases and the ongoing work of drafting book four, adding that she cannot wait to see fans in the four tour cities.
The Series Behind the Phenomenon
The Empyrean series began with “Fourth Wing” in May 2023, followed by “Iron Flame” in November of that year and “Onyx Storm” in January 2025, according to 9News. The series follows 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail, who is forced by her mother — a military general — to join the Basgiath War College, where she becomes a dragon rider in the kingdom of Navarre. “Fourth Wing” spent 18 weeks atop the New York Times bestseller list and became a viral phenomenon within TikTok's BookTok community, per the outlet's reporting.
Yarros has said her family's military background and her own experience living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome shaped Violet's physical vulnerabilities and resilience, according to Wikipedia. The book was published by Red Tower Books, an imprint Entangled Publishing launched in November 2022 specifically to chase the growing romance-fantasy market, and its viral success became the imprint's breakout title. Public library data from 2024 also showed “Fourth Wing” ranking as the third most popular book borrowed across all formats in New York City's public library systems, Hoodline reported last year.
A Packed Fall for a Colorado Author
The Denver stop lands in the middle of an unusually dense stretch for Yarros. Beyond the novella tour and work on the untitled fourth Empyrean novel, she is set to publish a standalone contemporary romance, “Peculiar Stars,” through Montlake Publishing on November 17, according to Woman's World. Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video also gave a series order in May for a television adaptation of “Fourth Wing,” hiring Meredith Averill as showrunner and Lisa Joy to direct the pilot, per Amazon.
Tattered Cover's role as co-host also reflects its own comeback story. The Denver-based chain was acquired out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2024 by Barnes & Noble for $1.83 million, becoming a subsidiary while keeping its local branding and storefronts, the Denver Gazette reported at the time. Its flagship East Colfax Avenue store operates inside the restored historic Lowenstein Theatre, a move it made in 2006 that gave it a 100-seat event space, as Hoodline has previously detailed. For a Colorado author whose fantasy world has already sold out arena promotions and driven library checkouts nationwide, launching the “Threshing Day” tour with two of the state's own institutions keeps the story firmly rooted at home before it heads out to New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle.
