Roswell cut the ribbon Thursday on a rebuilt set of soccer fields at Grimes Bridge Park, capping a $4.1 million overhaul that swapped worn natural grass for artificial turf and reinforced the ground beneath it. The project converted Soccer Fields 1 and 2, added a rebuilt retaining wall and gave players and spectators a new plaza and stairway connection into the park.
City officials marked the completion on Sept. 24 with a ceremony celebrating what roswellconnections.com described as the fields' next chapter. The $4.1 million project was funded through Roswell's voter-approved 2022 Parks Bond Program, according to the same city account, which also detailed fencing and netting upgrades, detention-pond restoration and stormwater improvements bundled into the work.
The work was carried out under a contract with Precision Turf, LLC.

Trees Removed, More Planned for Fall
The construction required removing 103 trees, with 28 slated for replanting as part of restoration and mitigation work tied to the project, according to roswellconnections.com.
City Leaders Frame the Fields as a Community Asset
Steven Malone, director of Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs, said the payoff is visible on the ground. “Today, these fields have a new playing surface, a rebuilt foundation and a better experience for players and spectators,” Malone said, according to the city's account of the ribbon-cutting. As reported by The Georgia Sun, Malone also noted that soccer at Grimes Bridge has been a cornerstone of Roswell's recreation programs for years.
Councilmember Eren Brumley struck a similar note about the stakes for the broader community. “Our parks are among this city's most valuable assets,” Brumley said, per the city's report, framing Roswell's parks as places where families gather and young athletes learn the game. The improvements are meant to serve both youth and adult soccer players who rely on the fields.
