Sacramento starts Tuesday clear and cool, but the easy morning will give way to a 94-degree afternoon before a more serious heat stretch arrives. A Heat Advisory is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, when temperatures are expected to climb to 99 and 100 degrees, respectively.
Heat Advisory Begins Wednesday
The advisory runs from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. Thursday across Sacramento and surrounding parts of the Valley, Delta and foothills. The National Weather Service says highs could range from 97 to 102 degrees, with overnight lows in the mid-60s to mid-70s and widespread Moderate to Major HeatRisk.
Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 99 and a low around 69. Thursday looks mostly sunny as well, with the week’s hottest afternoon near 100 degrees and only a 3% chance of rain.
Dry Air Adds Fire Weather Concerns
Humidity is expected to fall into the teens during the hottest part of the day, while north to northwest winds remain generally light at 2 to 9 mph. That combination will keep conditions dry and can increase fire-weather concerns, especially around dry grass and brush.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon, use air conditioning when possible and check on older adults, children and anyone without reliable cooling. The advisory’s guidance also calls for staying out of the sun and checking on relatives and neighbors during the hottest stretch.
Noticeable Cooldown Arrives Friday
The forecast turns sharply more comfortable Friday, when Sacramento should top out near 91 degrees under sunny skies. Temperatures then ease to about 84 Saturday, 87 Sunday and 87 Monday, with mostly clear nights and no meaningful rain expected.
That cooldown is a substantial change from the hotter setup outlined in an earlier Hoodline forecast. Friday into the weekend may also bring breezier onshore winds, giving the region a better shot at overnight relief after the midweek heat.
