Khaliq Amir Jones, 30, is charged in Ramsey County District Court with second-degree assault involving a dangerous weapon. The complaint alleges that he pointed a handgun at a woman in her apartment, threatened her, and hid the weapon when officers arrived.
The criminal complaint, as described by mncrime.com, says the alleged confrontation took place at a Saint Paul apartment on September 14. The woman told investigators Jones asked, “Do you want to die today?” then picked up a handgun, pulled back its slide and pointed it at her.
The threats reportedly did not stop there. The woman said Jones also warned her that if she called police, he would engage them in a shootout — and said she needed to leave the apartment.
A Message for Help Reaches Police Two Days Later
The woman said she messaged a friend because she needed to leave, and the friend alerted authorities. Officers went to the 1100 block of Westminster Street on September 16 after a caller reported receiving her message about the gun threat, according to the mncrime.com report.
The woman told officers that Jones hid the gun in the kitchen when they knocked. She also recalled saying, “He is going to kill me,” as she described her fear during the encounter.
Loaded Gun Found in a Kitchen Cupboard
Officers searched the apartment and found a loaded handgun inside a kitchen cupboard, according to the report. Jones was arrested. The complaint says he initially denied a conflict and said he did not know about a gun in the apartment.
Jones later acknowledged that an argument had taken place, the outlet reported. He said he had found the handgun and kept it for personal protection, but denied threatening the woman with it.
Potential Penalty and Court-Process Support
Under Minnesota Statutes section 609.222, assault with a dangerous weapon may be punishable by up to seven years in prison, a $14,000 fine, or both, according to the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes. That is the statutory maximum, not a prediction of the outcome in Jones’s case. The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office says its advocates provide victims and witnesses with support, resources and information throughout the court process.
