A 31-year-old Salina man is behind bars after police say a child called 911 while trying to stop him from beating and choking a woman inside a south Salina home Wednesday night. William Joseph Ogozaly now faces a lengthy list of charges, including aggravated kidnapping, after officers responded to the residence around 10 p.m.
According to KAKE, the woman told officers Ogozaly yelled at her before striking and kicking her in the head and body, choking her, and threatening to kill her. When the child attempted to intervene, Ogozaly struck the child as well, KAKE reports, and it was that child who ultimately called 911 to bring police to the scene. Ogozaly was reportedly taken into custody without incident, per the media release cited by the outlet.
Salina Post identifies James Feldman as a Salina Police lieutenant and quotes him describing the sequence of the attack: inside the residence, Ogozaly dragged the woman through the home while continuing to strike and kick her and repeatedly threatening to kill her. Following the assault, the woman was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of multiple physical injuries, Salina Post reports.

Saline County Jail booking records show Ogozaly was booked into custody late Wednesday at 11:45 p.m. with no initial bond set, according to Salina311.
