Sandy Springs is about to hear the barricades sing again. City Springs Theatre Company is staging an all-new production of Les Misérables from September 11 through September 27, marking the first local, Atlanta-area mounting of the beloved musical in more than a decade.
According to reporting by Rough Draft Atlanta, the staging opens City Springs Theatre Company's ninth season and brings the sweeping musical to local audiences. FOX 5 Atlanta also noted that the production will run at Byers Theatre inside the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, per FOX 5 Atlanta's coverage. Les Misérables' broad appeal and global success have helped sustain its status as a major musical.
A Director Who Once Played the Villain
Leading the production is Shuler Hensley, City Springs Theatre Company's Artistic Director, who previously performed the antagonist role of Javert during the original Broadway run of Les Misérables, according to the same Rough Draft Atlanta report. Hensley is a Tony Award-winning actor and Atlanta native, giving him a firsthand vantage point on the material he's now directing at home.
The principal cast includes New York-based actor Jacob Keith Watson, who makes his company debut as Jean Valjean, joined by Jonathan Christopher as Javert and Grammy winner Anna Sailors, per City Springs Theatre Company announcements reported by Rough Draft Atlanta.
