A 21-year-old man was shot and killed early Tuesday outside an apartment building on Cushman Circle in southwest Atlanta, police said, marking the second deadly shooting at the same complex in just two days. Officers were still working to determine what happened, and no arrests had been announced in either killing.
According to Atlanta News First, officers responded around 3 a.m. Tuesday to the Hidden Pines apartment complex in the 3000 block of Cushman Circle after getting a report of a person shot. Police said the shooting happened in the complex’s parking lot. Fox 5 Atlanta’s Marc Teichner reported on the shooting at the apartment complex, and per FOX 5 Atlanta, police received a call about the shooting around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers found the man outside Building G, and they tried to save him, but he died at the scene, according to a separate FOX 5 Atlanta report. His name had not been released, and police said he was from the area. The station also noted that the complex’s lack of surveillance video has made it harder for investigators to establish what happened.
A Conflicting Account From Relatives
Not every report matches on the basic details. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution identified the victim differently, reporting that relatives named him as 21-year-old Ralph Burras. According to the AJC, Burras was shot and killed early Monday morning at what the paper called the Hidden Village Apartments, with his body found around 1:15 a.m. lying between cars in the parking lot. That account differs from other reports describing an early Tuesday shooting at a complex called Hidden Pines — leaving the exact day, time, and location of the killing unresolved across news outlets.
The complex has seen violence before. The AJC reports that the location has been the site of multiple shootings over the past year, a pattern that has left residents on edge.
Second Fatal Shooting in Days
The overnight shooting came just two days after 26-year-old Elijah Brookshire was fatally shot at the same complex on September 27. Fox 5 Atlanta reported that Brookshire died after being shot Sunday afternoon in southwest Atlanta, and as of the latest update, no one had been arrested in his killing. Investigators had not said whether the two deaths were connected.
This is not the complex’s first tragedy involving gunfire. A 12-year-old boy, Ja-Nylen Greggs, was killed in crossfire at the same location in June 2025, a case in which one person was later arrested. The Atlanta Police Department’s homicide unit had also sought public information about a homicide at 3200 Cushman Circle SW dating to June 12, 2025, according to a notice posted by the Atlanta Police Department.
With two fatal shootings at the same complex in less than a week and a history of gun violence stretching back more than a year, investigators face a familiar challenge: piecing together what happened without the benefit of surveillance cameras. No suspect description, motive, or arrest had been confirmed in the latest case as of Tuesday.
