An overnight crash on westbound Interstate 40 near Anderson Road in Oklahoma City left an 18-year-old Seminole woman dead and two other people injured after her car crossed the center median, slammed into a concrete barrier, and was struck again by another vehicle. The wreck happened shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday and shut down the westbound lanes for a couple of hours while crews worked the scene.
According to KOCO, Holly Roberts crossed the center median of I-40 and hit the concrete barrier before re-entering the road, where she was struck by another driver. Roberts died following the crash, the station reported. As reported by KOKH, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers responded to the crash along westbound I-40 near Anderson Road, and authorities said the 18-year-old Oklahoma woman was killed in the crash.
How the Crash Unfolded
The Oklahoma City Fire Department and Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the fatal wreck near westbound I-40 and South Anderson Road late Saturday night, per KFOR. Troopers confirmed a white sedan departed the roadway to the left and struck the center concrete barrier at high speed before re-entering the roadway, where it was struck by another vehicle shortly after, the station reported. Three people in total were transported to a nearby hospital following the crash, the outlet noted.
A passenger riding with Roberts was also injured in the crash, according to KOKH. The station reported that the driver of the other car was injured as well.
Conflicting Accounts of Injuries and Timeline
Accounts of the other driver's condition differ between outlets. KOCO reported that a 22-year-old from Edmond driving the other vehicle was injured, but his condition was unknown. KFOR, however, reported that the passenger of the white sedan and the driver of the second vehicle were both being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The two outlets also gave differing details on the timing of Roberts's death. KOCO reported that Roberts was pronounced dead following the crash, while KFOR reported that the driver of the white sedan was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital. The scene remained under further investigation, according to the same KFOR report.
Authorities have not released additional details about what caused Roberts's vehicle to leave the roadway. The westbound lanes were closed for a couple of hours as first responders worked to clear the scene, KOCO reported.
