A Block With a Troubled Recent Past
This is not the first time police have been called to that stretch of Elmore Street this year. On April 22, an 18-year-old male was shot and wounded in the same 1700 block near Colerain Avenue and required emergency transport to a hospital, WKRC reported. And in June 2025, Charles Smith was killed in a shooting on the block; Steven Young was arrested and charged in the case.
District 3's Expanded Beat
District 3 covers 18 neighborhoods across roughly 20 square miles of Cincinnati's West Side, including South Cumminsville, with a force of about 161 sworn officers, per the City of Cincinnati. Investigators in the case now work out of the district's $16 million Westwood headquarters at 2300 Ferguson Road, which opened in 2015 as the nation's first Net-Zero Energy and LEED Platinum-certified police station, as Hoodline has previously reported.
Citywide, Cincinnati recorded 2,635 violent crimes in 2024, according to FBI crime data compiled by OpenCrime, which reports that violent crime rose 16.2 percent from the previous year.
