The latest forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a gradual shift toward cooler, drier air behind a weak front. That should keep Sunday’s heat index closer to the actual air temperature across much of the St. Louis area.

Heat Roars Back Tuesday And Wednesday
Temperatures rebound quickly Tuesday, when sunny skies push the high near 96 degrees. Wednesday could be the hottest day of the week, with mostly sunny conditions and a high near 100.
Heat index values could again approach 100 degrees, particularly south of the city and elsewhere ahead of a cold front. The forecast gives Wednesday only a 12% chance of rain during the day, so outdoor plans may face more heat than storm trouble until evening.
Storm Chances Rise Wednesday Night
Showers and thunderstorms become more likely Wednesday night, with a 60% chance of precipitation after 7 p.m. Storm chances continue into Thursday, when showers and thunderstorms are likely before 1 p.m. and the high drops to about 86 degrees.
Rain chances ease after Thursday, but the extended forecast keeps a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms around Friday and Saturday. Friday’s high should reach 87 degrees, followed by a warmer Saturday near 91.
