A 40-year-old St. Louis man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after trying to meet someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl for sex in Iowa City. Bryan Williams was arrested when he arrived at the arranged meeting spot, capping off a case that began with a string of messages to an undercover officer just weeks earlier.
Messages and Meeting Arranged in August 2025
According to CBS2 Iowa, Williams began messaging an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl in August 2025, a timeline the outlet says is drawn from court documents. During those exchanges, Williams discussed sex acts with the officer and asked for photos, the station reported. Less than a week after the messaging started, he arranged to meet the person he believed was a 13-year-old girl in Iowa City.
Police arrested Williams when he arrived at the arranged meeting, according to the same report. Investigators searched his phone and found images and videos of child sexual abuse material, the report said, citing the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Federal Offenses and Sentence
Williams was sentenced for attempted enticement of a minor and possession of child pornography, according to CBS2 Iowa’s report, which cited the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He was also ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution and will serve seven years of supervised release after leaving prison.
The task force’s role and the limits of its mission statement
The Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force says its mission includes deterring, preventing, investigating and prosecuting online efforts to exploit minors. That mission description provides context about the task force’s work, but does not establish whether it was involved in Williams’s case or measure the scale of online exploitation.
