St. Louis woke to clear skies Wednesday, but the calm morning is giving way to another punishing day of heat. The temperature is expected to climb, with the heat index reaching as high as 106.
Heat Advisory Runs Through Friday Evening
The National Weather Service in St. Louis has a Heat Advisory in effect through 8 p.m. Friday. Hot temperatures and high humidity could cause heat illness, especially for people working or spending extended time outdoors.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. Young children and pets should never be left in vehicles, and anyone showing signs of heat stroke should be moved to a cool place and treated as a 911 emergency.
Storm Chances Stay Limited Wednesday
There is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday, with the best odds arriving from the afternoon into early evening. Most of the day should remain mostly sunny, and storms that develop are expected to be scattered rather than widespread.
Tonight will stay muggy, with a low near 77 and a lingering heat index as high as 103 before skies turn partly cloudy. Thursday looks even hotter, with a high near 98, mostly sunny skies and another chance of afternoon thunderstorms.
Triple-Digit Heat Index Continues Into The Weekend
Friday will remain mostly sunny with a high near 96, followed by Saturday. Storm chances stay low Friday daytime.
Cooler Air Finally Arrives Next Week
Sunday remains warm, with the worst of the heat expected Sunday through Tuesday, when daytime highs remain in the mid to upper 90s and heat index values reach 100 degrees or higher. Overnight lows are expected to remain in the mid to upper 70s by Monday night, offering little relief from the heat.
