
A two-vehicle crash on Stage Road in Northeast Memphis left one person dead and three others injured Wednesday, with one of the survivors listed in critical condition. The wreck pulled emergency crews to the area as police worked to piece together what led to the collision.
According to Action News 5, one crash victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The station reports that four people total were involved, with three survivors — one in critical condition and two others expected to recover.
Memphis Police Department officers were called to the crash scene near Bluefield Road, per the outlet's reporting. First responders worked to clear the area Wednesday afternoon.
Cause of the Crash Still Under Investigation
The Memphis Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash, according to the same report. No further details on the vehicles involved, the identities of those hurt, or what led up to the collision have been released.
The crash adds to a string of serious wrecks reported around Memphis this year. A separate, unrelated crash on April 30 at Stage Road and Robbiedon Street involved a Nissan Murano driven by 33-year-old Travis Johnson, according to a report from actionnews5.com. That crash killed an adult passenger at the scene and left two infants, ages one month and two months, critically injured and transported to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, per the same account. WREG reported that a 33-year-old woman died in that Raleigh-area crash while two juvenile passengers were taken to Le Bonheur in critical condition.
Pattern of Serious Crashes in the Area
Northeast Memphis has seen other fatal or near-fatal collisions in recent months. fox13memphis.com reported that the August 1, 2024, crash at North Germantown Parkway and Stage Road in Northeast Memphis occurred Thursday morning and caused no reported injuries. On August 8, 2026, localmemphis.com reported that a man and woman were critically injured in an early-morning crash at Quince Road and Lynnfield Road, and that the man later died. In February, the same outlet reported that two people were pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on I-40, with a third person taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
No additional details about the September 16 crash on Stage Road have been released. Memphis Police Department's investigation into the cause remains ongoing.
