The Old English Tea Shoppe, a Stone Oak café that brought full English breakfasts, Sunday roasts and formal afternoon tea service to North San Antonio, will close its doors for good on October 4, 2026, ending a run of almost three years. The closure comes as owners Sandra and Peter Marley are returning to the United Kingdom, according to a restaurant statement.
News of the shutdown was first reported by CultureMap San Antonio, which noted the shop had operated as the only dedicated British tea room in San Antonio. The café sits at 20122 Stone Oak Parkway, a spot it took over from Savor Bistro when it opened in November 2023, according to Community Impact, which reported the shop launched before Thanksgiving that year.
The business was co-owned by Sandra and Peter Marley alongside Janet Kelly and Dr. Robb Kelly, with Community Impact describing Robb Kelly and the Marleys as England natives. Sandra Marley, a cook and baker from Manchester, made the shop's pies, pastries and desserts in-house, according to the Old English Tea Shoppe's own website, which described the operation as “The REAL British Invasion owned and operated by our British family.”
A Taste of England on Stone Oak Parkway
The café set out to give British expats a home away from home while introducing Americans to English cuisine, per the seed report from CultureMap San Antonio. The menu leaned hard into homeland comfort food: beans on toast, full English breakfasts loaded with bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes and black pudding, plus bangers and mash with onion gravy, fish ’n’ chips, butter chicken curry and sandwiches.
Community Impact's opening-day coverage put a price on the shop's marquee offering, noting traditional English afternoon tea was available by appointment for $49.95 per person. According to the same account, the afternoon tea menu featured coronation chicken sandwiches, scones, sausage rolls, frittatas and house-baked sweets, all individually made. The shoppe also served a weekly Sunday roast with vegetables and Yorkshire pudding smothered in gravy.
Owners Reflect as Doors Prepare to Close
In its closure statement, the Old English Tea Shoppe thanked customers for supporting the restaurant and for sharing meals and special occasions there over the years, according to CultureMap San Antonio. The exact reason behind the Marleys' return to the UK was not detailed beyond that statement, and it remains unclear what, if anything, will follow at the Stone Oak location.
San Antonio still has other spots for British fare, though none billed as a dedicated tea room. CultureMap San Antonio pointed to The Cottage and Lion & Rose as local establishments serving British cuisine, and both pubs also turned up on a 2026 roundup of the city's best fish and chips from Alamo Examiner. For now, San Antonians hoping for a proper cuppa and a scone have just days left before the Old English Tea Shoppe pours its final round.
