A two-vehicle crash south of Palmyra, Missouri left two people injured Monday evening, with a 26-year-old man airlifted to a Columbia hospital after suffering serious injuries. A 24-year-old woman driving the second vehicle was also hurt but suffered only minor injuries, while an 81-year-old man riding in the first vehicle walked away unharmed.
According to wgem.com, the first vehicle failed to yield to another vehicle traveling on U.S. Highway 61. That vehicle carried the 81-year-old man, who was not injured, along with the 26-year-old man who ended up with serious injuries. He was flown to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, by survival flight, per the same report.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 24-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital by Marion County EMS, the station's report notes. Her vehicle sustained total damage in the crash, according to the same account. As reported by WSMV, the crash occurred Monday evening south of Palmyra and left the two people injured.
Emergency Crews Respond to the Scene
The Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Palmyra Fire Department assisted at the scene of the crash, the wgem.com report states. Local agencies converged on the U.S. 61 corridor south of Palmyra as crews worked to clear the wreckage and get both injured people to medical care.
A separate crash-report snippet attributed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that vehicle one failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled into the path of vehicle two, according to a record posted on mshp.dps.mo.gov. That same record notes the response included a trooper identified as TPR Hummel #150, along with the Palmyra Fire Department and Palmyra Police Department.
