A chance of rain begins around 7 a.m., followed by scattered thunderstorms late this morning and a more active stretch from midafternoon into early evening. The National Weather Service puts the overall precipitation chance near 70%, with roughly a tenth to a quarter-inch of rain possible. That is a more immediate update to Friday’s forecast, which first highlighted Saturday as the weekend’s wettest day.
Storm Chances Peak Saturday Afternoon
Rain chances rise through the day, reaching their highest levels between about 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Temperatures should top out near 85 to 86 degrees, with south to southwest winds increasing from a few miles per hour in the morning to around 7 mph later on.
Showers and thunderstorms remain possible Saturday night, especially during the evening, before fading to a slight chance after midnight. Skies will stay mostly cloudy, and the low should settle near 70 degrees. The forecast discussion says the overall severe-storm threat is low, though isolated heavy rain could still cause a sharp downpour.
Sunday Brings Fog, Sunshine And More Heat
Sunday starts with a brief chance of patchy fog around 8 to 9 a.m., followed by mostly sunny skies and a high near 90. Rain chances drop to almost nothing around Charlotte, although a few showers or storms could still develop in the mountains.
Sunny Weather Takes Over Next Week
Monday looks sunny and warmer, with a high near 92, before a dry front brings slightly cooler conditions Tuesday. Highs should reach about 85 Tuesday, 87 Wednesday and 90 Thursday, with mostly clear nights dipping into the mid-60s.
Friday stays sunny for much of the day before a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms returns after 2 p.m. No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for the Charlotte area in the current forecast.
