Rain Sticks Around Through Sunday Night
Rain is expected before 5 p.m., followed by periods of rain into the evening as temperatures reach only about 69 degrees. Winds from the east or southeast will shift later, and a slight chance of thunderstorms could bring a brief heavier downpour; the National Weather Service says most locations could receive near or less than 2 inches in total.
The updated outlook is less alarming than earlier projections. The flash-flood potential has decreased, but a marginal flood threat remains, with potential for heavy rain, according to the latest forecast discussion. That is a notable change from Saturday’s Hoodline forecast, which highlighted a greater flood concern.
Monday Offers A Brief Lull
Monday could start with a slight chance of rain before 8 a.m., then turn mostly cloudy with a high near 67. Northeast winds will accompany the cooler day, while another chance of showers arrives Monday night with a low near 60.
Northeast Winds Build Through Midweek
The forecast turns cooler and breezier Tuesday, when scattered showers are possible and temperatures may fall from a high near 63 during the afternoon. Wednesday and Thursday stay mostly cloudy with additional shower chances, highs in the low to mid-60s, and northeast winds reaching roughly 20 mph or more at times.
The stronger concern later in the week shifts toward the coast. Persistent east and northeast winds could build ocean seas to 12 to 15 feet or more, raising the risk of high surf, beach erosion and minor to possibly moderate coastal flooding around high tides.
What New Yorkers Should Watch
Allow extra travel time Sunday, watch for slick roads and avoid driving through standing water. A moderate rip-current risk is expected through the weekend, while broader small-craft conditions may develop by early Monday.
