A 40-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon after his Yamaha and a Ford F-150 collided on CR-470 near County Road 416N in Sumter County. The crash happened around 2:06 p.m.; the rider was trying to pass the pickup as it turned left, according to a report cited below.
The Tampa Free Press reported that the motorcyclist, a Lake Panasoffkee man, had been riding behind the westbound F-150 before moving into the oncoming lane to overtake it. The pickup, driven by a 54-year-old Lake Panasoffkee man, was turning left at the crossroads near County Road 416N when the vehicles collided.
Emergency medical personnel transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, per the same report. The Florida Highway Patrol has not released either driver's name.
