Minneapolis is waking up to mostly clear skies Wednesday, with a sunny afternoon ahead and a high near 79 degrees. Winds will pick up from the west, gusting as high as 30 mph, but rain is staying out of the forecast for now.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will bring another warm afternoon near 80, though fog could become more widespread Thursday night.
Friday will be the weather pivot, with a high near 84 and increasingly breezy south winds. Gusts could reach 30 mph before the more active storm window arrives Friday evening.
Friday Night Storms Could Be Strong
Showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday night, especially between about 6 p.m. and midnight. Forecasters say organized convection and strong winds are possible. Rainfall potential is also expected to increase.
According to the City of Minneapolis, Public Works will build storm sewer improvements on 34th Ave. N and 35th Ave. to reduce flooding by increasing storm sewer and inlet capacity. A City of Minneapolis feasibility study says the Southwest Harriet area has a history of flooding challenges and frequently experiences impacts to structures during larger events.
Saturday should turn cooler and mostly sunny after a slight chance of early showers, with a high near 73. The broader pattern then gets wetter, with rain chances returning Sunday and showers or thunderstorms likely Monday as temperatures settle into the upper 60s and low 70s.
