More than 150 workers across metro Phoenix are losing their jobs as two global health companies pull back manufacturing operations in Scottsdale and Tempe. According to abc15.com, West Pharmaceutical Services AZ Inc. notified the Arizona Department of Economic Security of the job losses tied to its Scottsdale operations center. The company will cease operations on a product line there after selling it to AbbVie Inc. for $112.5 million, per the same report. As reported by the Phoenix Business Journal, West Pharmaceutical Services will phase out that product line by the end of this month.
Employee Separations Span Months
The job losses at West are not happening all at once. The seed reporting from the Phoenix Business Journal's Angela Gonzales notes that employee separations at the company occurred in January and will continue in November, spreading the impact across much of the year rather than in a single cutoff date.
Becton, Dickinson's timeline stretches even further. The company issued a WARN letter confirming it is creating a loss of 57 positions, according to abc15.com, and its employee separations will continue through February 2027. BD currently operates peripheral intervention manufacturing operations at 1625 W. Third St. in Tempe, but the article notes the company will no longer operate its entire manufacturing operation at that site by February 2027, as it moves those functions to other facilities.
