Two men were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting in North Portland early Wednesday morning, and police have not located any suspects. Officers responded to N. Wall and N. Lombard just after 2:30 a.m., where they found the two victims before they were taken to the hospital.
According to FM News 101 KXL, a shooting investigation is underway in North Portland after the two men were hurt. Portland police closed N. Lombard during the investigation, and as of the station's report, no suspects had been found at the scene.
The closure of N. Lombard came as officers worked the scene near N. Wall, a stretch of North Portland that has seen gun violence before. It is not known whether Wednesday's shooting is connected to any other recent incident in the area.
Portland's Broader Gun Violence Numbers
The shooting adds to a grim tally city officials have tracked for years. Police said they had responded to 129 shootings in Portland since the start of 2021, excluding calls involving suicide, according to NBC16. Of those shootings, 37 people had been injured, with police saying Portland was averaging just over one person killed or injured by gunfire each day.
That same outlet's report described a separate night when police investigated three shootings across north Portland within three hours of one another, leaving two men seriously injured, though officials said at the time they were not sure whether the incidents were connected. One of those shootings, near Woodlawn Park, involved a man with gunshot wounds who had crashed his car near an intersection, while a second near North Commercial Avenue and Mason Street left 30 shell casings behind but no reported injuries. A third shooting near North Williams Avenue and Alberta Street left a man with gunshot wounds inside a car, with investigators recovering more than 10 bullet casings.
For now, Wednesday's shooting near N. Wall and N. Lombard remains under investigation, with the two victims recovering from injuries described as non-life-threatening. No further details on suspects or a motive have been released.
