A video has surfaced showing Isaiah Stewart punching Drew Eubanks in an arena hallway before a February 2024 game between the Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns, the altercation that led to Stewart's arrest at Footprint Center. The clip resurfaces more than two years later, just as Eubanks has landed with the New York Knicks for the 2026 offseason.
What The Newly Surfaced Video Shows
According to the New York Post, which credited Fox 10 in Phoenix with obtaining the footage, the video shows Stewart walking through an arena hallway while Eubanks waits for him. Stewart throws a punch and then pushes Eubanks. Stewart appears ready to hit him again after that sequence, before security separated the two. Eubanks reportedly said Stewart sucker-punched him, per the Post's account of the footage.
That sequence lines up with what Eubanks told reporters in the days after the February 14, 2024 incident. He described an argument that turned chest-to-chest before Stewart threw the punch, with security stepping in to break it up, according to WKRG. Phoenix police said Eubanks sustained a minor injury, though he told reporters he felt fine to play, as noted by The Hill.
The Game Went On, And So Did The Fallout
Eubanks ended up playing 18 minutes that night, finishing with six points and eight rebounds as the Suns beat the Pistons 116-100, per the same WKRG account. Stewart was arrested on assault charges, received a citation and was released, according to CBS News Detroit. The NBA followed up by suspending Stewart for three games without pay for punching and pushing Eubanks, as reported by Fox 10 Phoenix.
The criminal case did not stick. CBS News Detroit reported that the assault charge against Stewart was dropped, according to court records, while Fox 10 Phoenix reported that a misdemeanor assault charge was dismissed by the Phoenix Municipal Court after a prosecutor's motion was granted.
Suns And Pistons Clashed Over Who Started It
In the immediate aftermath, the Suns called the incident an unprovoked attack, saying acts of violence like it were unacceptable and that the organization supported Eubanks while planning to work with local law enforcement and the NBA. Pistons coach Monty Williams, who had previously coached the Suns himself, pushed back hard on that framing. “I think that is irresponsible for sure. You really don’t know,” Williams said, per The Hill, arguing the league still needed to investigate before anyone assigned blame.
The clash was not Stewart's first brush with league discipline. He was suspended for two games in 2021 after an on-court altercation with the Lakers' LeBron James, who was suspended one game for his part in that incident, according to WKRG.
Eubanks' Long Road To New York
Eubanks went undrafted out of Oregon State and has since played eight NBA seasons across six teams, including stints with the San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers before landing in Phoenix and, later, Sacramento. He joined the Knicks on a non-guaranteed contract during the 2026 offseason, putting him in a roster battle with Bruce Brown, John Konchar, James Wiseman and Ochai Agbaji as he looks to lock down a spot. Stewart, the former first-round pick who spent years with Detroit, was sent to the Memphis Grizzlies in July as part of a six-team trade, well before this old footage resurfaced to link the two players' names again.
