Milwaukee is starting Friday with scattered to partly cloudy skies, but the weekend forecast is taking a decidedly wetter turn. Friday’s high should reach about 68 degrees before showers and thunderstorms become more widespread overnight.
Dangerous Lake Michigan Conditions Friday
The National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, with high swimming risk and dangerous shoreline conditions expected. Anyone heading to the lake should stay out of the water and away from piers, breakwalls and other exposed areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder could develop from late morning through the afternoon, although the daytime activity is not expected to bring major hazards. Easterly winds tonight could add to the rough conditions along the shoreline.
Overnight Storms Could Bring Heavy Rain
The bigger soaking arrives Friday night, when rain showers are expected before 1 a.m. and thunderstorms become more likely afterward. Widespread precipitation and locally heavy downpours may create ponding on roads.
Saturday looks just as unsettled, with showers and thunderstorms and additional heavy downpours possible; flooding concerns are greatest in low-lying areas, urban streets and small streams.
A Flood Watch is in effect for parts of southwest Wisconsin from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, while Milwaukee residents should still monitor changing conditions and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Severe weather is not expected to be widespread, but heavy rain and lightning could disrupt outdoor plans, as Hoodline previously reported.
Cooler, Windier Weather Follows
Additional showers and storms are possible Saturday evening and overnight. Sunday stays mostly cloudy with rain showers, a high near 66 and a persistent northeast breeze, while Lake Michigan swimming conditions are expected to remain dangerous through the weekend.
Rain chances taper but do not disappear Monday, with off-and-on lighter rain, highs in the 60s and a persistent northeast breeze. Tuesday brings a slight chance of showers and a high near 60, followed by predominantly dry weather through midweek.
