CraftLab Seattle is putting down permanent roots this Saturday, October 3, opening a studio at 4411 California SW after four years as a mobile crafting outfit that crisscrossed the city with classes, workshops and events. The occasion comes with a free community open house running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., complete with a ribbon-cutting at noon.
According to West Seattle Blog, the open house is open to everyone and includes studio tours, free crafting and snacks. Attendance is free, though CraftLab is asking visitors to register ahead of time. CraftLab Seattle founder Laura Duris has framed the studio as the next chapter for a business that started small and close to home.
From a West Seattle Living Room to a Studio Storefront
CraftLab has existed since 2022 as a mobile crafting service, founded in a West Seattle home by Duris and Kathleen Sande, per the outlet's earlier report. The business built its reputation offering classes, workshops and events around the city rather than operating out of a fixed location, a model that let it grow before settling into brick-and-mortar space.
Along the way, CraftLab's after-school programs expanded to serve more than 10 schools across the Greater Seattle area, according to CraftLab Seattle's own website. The company describes itself as specializing in creative experiences for children, adults, corporate team-building events and after-school enrichment programs.
Sustainability Baked Into Every Project
Materials matter at CraftLab, where projects lean on upcycled, donated and thrifted materials from the community rather than store-bought supplies. The station's earlier report noted that fabric scraps, jars, tiles, paper and other everyday items get a second life as art in CraftLab's hands.
“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at CraftLab,” Duris said, per the same account. That ethos has carried through the company's transition from mobile service to studio, with the new California SW location expected to keep community programming going alongside the shift to a fixed home base.
The earlier coverage, published in May 2026, first reported that CraftLab was returning to a studio setup, with plans for a year-round schedule offering two to three workshops per week. Saturday's open house marks the culmination of that plan, giving West Seattle residents their first look at the finished space.
