A 36-year-old Wildwood man suffered serious injuries early Tuesday morning after his Nissan Sentra was struck by two tractor-trailers in a three-vehicle crash near the entrance to County Road 470 in Sumter County. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital following the collision, which happened at approximately 6:50 a.m.
According to WFTV, the Wildwood driver had stopped his Sentra while traveling westbound and preparing to turn left when the westbound tractor-trailer traveling behind it rear-ended the Sentra. The impact propelled the Sentra into the path of an oncoming eastbound tractor-trailer, which then struck the sedan. The eastbound tractor-trailer driver, a 54-year-old man from New York, was not injured, and the westbound tractor-trailer driver, a 57-year-old man from Georgia, was also not hurt in the crash.
The precise location of Tuesday's wreck was near the entrance to 1859 CR-470, per an FHP statement reported by Tampa Free Press. That stretch of roadway has seen deadly collisions before: a 38-year-old Crystal River man was killed in May when his passenger vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer at the nearby intersection of CR-470 and State Road 44, according to FOX 13 Tampa Bay reporting on an FHP investigation.

CR-470 functions as a key east-west link connecting I-75, Florida's Turnpike, and U.S. 301. Commercial development along the corridor includes a 7-Eleven at US-301 and CR-470 with dedicated diesel lanes intended to capture expected increased truck traffic, according to the Issenberg Britti Group.
