A Winter Springs man is facing a felony assault charge after police said he tried to run over a neighbor with a golf cart in the Hacienda Village neighborhood back in June. Bruce Gittleman is now expected to appear in court later this week for trial scheduling, with the case having moved into trial posture.

According to WKMG ClickOrlando, a man was accused of attempting to run over a neighbor with a golf cart.

An officer accused Gittleman of assault with a deadly weapon, saying a witness and the victim reported he tried to hit the man with the cart. Gittleman denied trying to hurt anyone and told officers the encounter came after an argument with a neighbor, saying the neighbor had returned to the street with a mower and yelled at him as he rode by, the outlet reported.

License Already Canceled, Police Say

Police said Gittleman should not have been operating the golf cart at all because his driver’s license had been canceled. Officers also determined that the stretch where the confrontation happened was not a private driveway or recreational area, meaning a valid license was required to legally drive the cart there. Gittleman told officers no one had informed him that a valid license was necessary to operate the golf cart in that area, per the same account.

Under Florida Statutes § 316.212, appropriate signs must be posted when the department determines golf carts may operate on a road.

With the case now in trial posture, Gittleman is expected back in court later this week for scheduling. No additional detail on the charging document, court date specifics, or his legal representation has been made public.
