An 8-inch water main break has knocked out water service to parts of Wise County and triggered a boil water notice for every customer served by West Wise Special Utility District. The district says customers should bring water to a vigorous rolling boil for two minutes before drinking it, cooking with it, brushing their teeth or making ice, or simply switch to bottled water until further notice.
The district issued the boil water notice for all customers on Saturday because of the main break, according to Wise County Messenger. West Wise Special Utility District also posted its own alert, titled “8-inch Main Break - Boil Water Notice” and dated September 26, 2026, on the district's alerts page.
No Water At All In Some Areas
While the boil order applies districtwide, the damage is worse in a few specific pockets. Customers in the Lake Road, Pleasant View and FM 920 areas will be without water entirely until repairs are completed, per the Messenger's report. The district has not said how long those repairs are expected to take.
West Wise SUD is asking everyone else on the system to help by cutting back on nonessential water use while crews work the break. That includes turning off sprinklers and irrigation systems, according to the same report, so pressure can be maintained across the rest of the network as repairs move forward.
What Happens Next
The district says it must repair the water main break and restore system pressure before the notice can be lifted, and it has committed to notifying customers once that happens. In the meantime, the boiling instructions apply to any water used for consumption, food prep, oral hygiene or ice, and bottled water remains an acceptable substitute.
West Wise SUD customers are being asked to conserve water and follow the boil notice, including bringing water to a rolling boil for two minutes before use.
Similar water main breaks have forced boil notices elsewhere in Texas, including a 2026 order covering areas south of the Llano River after a major main break, reported by CBS Austin.
For now, West Wise SUD customers should plan on boiling water or using bottled water until the utility announces the notice has been lifted.
