A woman has died after being hit by a car while crossing the street near 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street in central Phoenix, and police say the investigation into exactly what happened is still ongoing. First responders were called to the crash just before 7 p.m. on Friday, and the woman was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.
According to the AZ Family, the Phoenix Police Department says the woman was hit while crossing the street, and the driver stayed at the scene afterward. Investigators have not released the woman's name, and the outlet's report does not detail what led up to the crash or whether any citations have been issued.
Investigation Still Active
Phoenix police are continuing to investigate the crash, and no additional details about the cause have been made public. The station's report frames the case as an active inquiry, with officers working to determine the circumstances that led to the woman's death.
This is at least the second pedestrian death reported in the Phoenix area within the past several weeks. A 15-year-old girl died after being struck by a vehicle near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix on Aug. 25, a case detailed by FOX 10 Phoenix. In that crash, the driver also remained at the scene, and police determined impairment was not a factor. That case, too, remains under investigation, and no names have been released.

Pedestrian deaths remain a persistent problem nationally.
