A Garvin County jury has convicted Corey Durrell Jackson on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of cruelty to animals for the May 2024 shooting deaths of Danny Daniel, Destinie Dalstead, and their dog at a rural Wynnewood property. The verdict came down Friday, and jurors recommended a sentence of life in prison plus one additional year.
According to KOKH, Garvin County Sheriff's Office deputies were conducting a welfare check on May 31, 2024, when they found Daniel, 62, and Dalstead, 39, dead inside a home near Indian Meridian Road and East County Road 1680. The Garvin County News Star reported that deputies responded to the property around 9:30 a.m. and also discovered the couple's dog dead at the residence. The Sheriff's Office asked OSBI to assist.
Dalstead, also known as Destinie Rhealinn Wieck, had a connection to Wynnewood, according to an obituary from Winans Funeral Home. Both victims were shot to death at the property.
Suspects Were Already Behind Bars in Texas
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation special agents arrested Jackson along with three co-defendants — Marcus Allen Parker, Keshun Diontay Dotson, and Neal Samuel Empy — in connection with the killings. All four men were incarcerated in Dallas-area jails on unrelated charges at the time OSBI linked them to the Wynnewood case, according to Crime Solvers. OSBI linked all four men to the case.
Building the case required cooperation across state and federal lines. The investigation drew on the Garvin County Sheriff's Office, the Dallas Police Department, Grapevine Police Department, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, in addition to OSBI, illustrating the scale of the multi-agency effort needed to trace the suspects back to the rural Oklahoma crime scene.
What Happens Next Under Oklahoma Law
Jackson's jury recommended life in prison for the murder counts plus an additional year on the animal cruelty charge. Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 21, Section 701.9, first-degree murder carries penalties of death, life without parole, or life imprisonment, according to Justia Law.
The animal cruelty conviction stems from the dog's killing. The jury recommended a one-year sentence for that count.
It remains unclear whether prosecutors have established a definitive motive for the killings, and the legal status and any upcoming trial dates for Jackson's three co-defendants have not been detailed.
Part of a Troubling Pattern in Rural Garvin County
The Wynnewood case is not the only multi-victim homicide to hit the small Garvin County town in recent years. In April 2025, another double homicide occurred in Wynnewood, and an 18-year-old was sentenced in June 2026 to life without parole after pleading guilty in that case, according to OSBI. Both incidents involved multiple victims in rural parts of the county and were investigated jointly by OSBI and local deputies.
The May 2024 Wynnewood shooting was a firearm-related homicide.
Garvin County has seen several other high-profile violent crime prosecutions move through its courts recently, including a Paoli woman's 15-year sentence for shooting her stepfather.
Animal Cruelty Charge
The killing of Daniel and Dalstead's dog alongside its owners was part of the case against Jackson, who was convicted of cruelty to animals.
Jackson's case moves toward formal sentencing following the jury's recommendation, while questions about his co-defendants' fates and the motive behind the Wynnewood killings remain unresolved.
