Yukon is saddling up for a Wild West-themed celebration next month, when the Chisholm Trail Festival takes over Mollie Spencer Farm with cowboy reenactments, chuckwagon fare and a free pumpkin patch. Gates open at 10 a.m. on October 17 at the farm, located at 1001 Garth Brooks Blvd., for a family-friendly celebration of the cattle trail that once cut straight through Yukon.
The event is a joint production of the City of Yukon Parks & Recreation Department and the Chisholm Trail Historical Preservation Society, which was incorporated on April 30, 1990, to preserve trail history and educate the public on pioneer lifestyles, according to the Chisholm Trail Historical Preservation Society. As KFOR reports, the festival celebrates Yukon's heritage alongside the broader history of the Chisholm Trail itself, blending frontier-town attractions with modern-day family fun.
A Farm Rooted in Yukon's Founding Family
Mollie Spencer Farm carries its own layered history that makes it a fitting stage for the festival. The 33-acre property was purchased by Mollie Spencer in 1894, according to Mollie Spencer Farm. The farm's history page says the Kirkpatrick Family Fund ensures the property's protection for public use through the nonprofit.
L.M. Spencer and his brother A.N. Spencer co-founded Yukon in 1891, per Hoodline's own research. That family lineage ties directly into the farm's role today: the farm sits on the original Chisholm Trail.

Once the gates open, the day fills up fast with activities for kids and adults alike. Per KFOR's reporting, festival-goers can expect a free pumpkin patch, a kids' activity area, themed craft vendors, western crafts and storytelling, and frontier-themed entertainment throughout the grounds. Live cowboy reenactments and chuckwagon fare round out the historical flavor, while food trucks handle the rest of the appetite.
Competitive fun kicks off at noon with pie-eating contests, and a kids' karaoke contest begins at 2 p.m., according to KFOR. The festival wraps up at 3 p.m.
