A 24-year-old man has died after being struck by a vehicle late Saturday night on South Drake Road near Skybridge Avenue in Kalamazoo. Officers who responded found him in the road and immediately began lifesaving measures before he was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to mlive.com, a vehicle traveling northbound on South Drake Road struck the pedestrian near Skybridge Avenue. The outlet reported that officers responded to the scene at about 11:33 p.m. on Oct. 24, while WWMT reported, citing the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, that the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
Once on scene, officers found the man in the road and attempted life-saving measures before he was taken to a hospital, per the same account. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, a detail confirmed in both outlets' reporting.

The crash adds to a troubling statewide pattern. A Michigan State Police release noted that pedestrian fatalities rose 18 percent statewide, climbing from 156 in 2024 to 184 in 2025, according to the Michigan State Police.

Earlier this year, a man was killed after being hit by a car at the intersection of W. Main Street and N. Drake Road in Oshtemo Township, according to WOODTV.com, which reported that crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on June 20.
