A 25-year-old man is dead after being shot multiple times at a Chevron gas station on Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta, and police are now searching for two suspects believed to have fled in a blue Jeep Compass. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:30 p.m. and found the victim wounded at the scene before he was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Victim Rushed to Hospital, Did Not Survive
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, officers arrived to find the man shot several times at the gas station. He was taken to a local hospital, but, as the station reported, “Sadly, he didn't survive his injuries.” Atlanta police had not released the victim's identity as of the report, and his name remains unknown to the public.
Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute that escalated into gunfire, the same report noted. Investigators are now looking for two suspects who are believed to have last been seen fleeing in a blue Jeep Compass, though no further details about their identities or whereabouts have been released. A separate overnight report from WSB-TV confirmed Atlanta police were investigating a shooting at a gas station in southwest Atlanta near 1975 Campbellton Road, noting that authorities had not released information about the condition or identity of anyone shot, calling it a developing story.
Area Has Seen Violence Before
This is not the first deadly shooting reported near that stretch of Campbellton Road. The Atlanta Police Department says its Homicide Unit secured arrest warrants in April for Terry Hill in connection with a November 23, 2025, homicide at 1955 Campbellton Road SW, just doors down from the gas station. In that earlier case, officers responding to a person shot found an adult male with a gunshot wound in the parking lot at 1975 Campbellton Road SW; he was transported to a hospital and later pronounced deceased, while another male victim was reported in stable condition after also being shot, per the department's account.
In that prior case, Atlanta police said Hill was ultimately charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. No such charges or suspect information have been announced in this new shooting, and police have not said whether the two cases are connected.
Citywide Crime Trends Show a Mixed Picture
The shooting comes amid a broader shift in Atlanta's violent crime numbers this year. Citywide, homicides fell from 25 in the first three months of 2025 to just 16 during the same stretch of 2026, according to data reported by USA Today. Robberies also dropped, from 155 to 117 over the same period, and rape cases ticked down from 25 to 21.
But not every category improved. Aggravated assaults in Atlanta actually rose during that same first quarter, climbing from 639 cases in 2025 to 773 in 2026, the outlet reported. Police have not said whether the Campbellton Road shooting will be classified as a homicide or an aggravated assault case for statistical purposes, and the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue searching for the two suspects.
